The ELAC wrestling team brushed up on their talents when they hosted The Brawl, an all-day tournament, in the men’s gym last Saturday.

Ranked 15th in state, the Huskies hosted Cerritos (No. 3) and Victor Valley (No. 20) colleges and the University of Southern California’s  club wrestling team.

The Brawl is meant to prepare the Huskies for Regionals at ELAC on Dec. 6-7, which will be ELAC’s second consecutive year hosting the meet.

“We look at (The Brawl) like a practice. You know, when we go to Regionals it’s going to be more serious and intense,” Head Coach Ralph Valle said.

As of Nov. 6, three ELAC wrestlers were ranked in their weight classes in the California Community College wrestling individual rankings.

Hugo Perez ranked No. 5 and Davit Hovhannisyan ranked No. 6 in the 125-weight class.

Lavante Chism received honorable mention in the 174-weight division.

Hovhannisyan, who was not present at the tournament, sat out due to injuries. Valle also sat out Perez in order for him to rest and prepare for Regionals.

“I thought we did pretty good overall. It is November after all,” Valle said.

After Regionals, the Huskies who qualify make their way up north to San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton on Dec. 13-14 for the state finals.
