ELAC Campus News was recognized with eight awards from the 59th Journalism Association of Community Colleges State Convention producing its second-best state conference results in a years.
543 students from California community colleges partook in the conference April 3-5 at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel and Convention Center in Burbank, Calif..
Fifteen Campus News staff members experienced what it is like working in the journalism field with hands-on workshops,writing labs and competitions from morning to the late hours of each day, making sleeping secondary.
“Not sleeping much can be stressful, but more important I worked with tight deadlines while adding skills for future job interviews,” William Hernandez, Campus News staff writer, said.
Campus News won 10 awards in the Art Design category the previous three semesters of JACC competition.
Lindsey Maeda, Campus News Art Director, won nine of those awards, three in Burbank.
“I take new information from JACC workshops and try to improve each semester,” Maeda said.
