For the first time in almost two decades, the Huskies have a women’s South Coast Conference swim champion advancing Alice Fei Zhang to the state finals in two events.
The California Community College Athletic Association Swim and Dive Championships will be at ELAC in the Swim Stadium for the third consecutive year on May 1-3.
Zhang won the 50-yard freestyle breaking the previous SCC finals meet record in the event on Day 2 of the SCC Swim Championships today at Mt. San Antonio College.
Zhang also won first place in the 50 breaststroke after edging Arolyn Basham of Pasadena City College by the slimmest of margins 30.68 seconds to 30.69. Zhang enters the 100-yard freestyle tomorrow as the No. 1-seed.
“Alice (Zhang) has a good chance of winning the 100 free. When she goes after something, she really goes after it,” Erik Matheson, ELAC head coach said.
Other seeded Huskies in tomorrow’s events include Irene Young (No. 5-seeded) in the 100 backstroke, Veronica Orantes (No. 6) in the 1,650-yard free and the ELAC 400-yard free relay team (No. 4).
