East Los Angeles College’s Theatre Arts Department is getting ready for the two one-act comedies “The Chekhov Vaudeville!…featuring The Proposal and The Bear!” By Anton Chekhov in the P2-101 Upstairs Theatre premiering this Friday at 8 p.m.
The two one-act comedies written by Chekhov are set as the second production for ELAC’s Theatre Arts department.
Both plays have alternating cast members set to perform in different shows.
“The Proposal,” also knows as “A Marriage Proposal,” has three characters: Katrina, played by Kathryn Ventress, Lomov, played by Joe Robert Mejia and Miguel Delgado, and Natasha, played by Polina Metveeva.
“The Bear,” also known as “The Boor,” is another one-act play that also only has three characters in its cast: Popova, played by Gabriella Maldonado and Marissa Ruiz, Luka, played by Lucy Celoni, and Smirnov, played by Peter Mendoza.
Both plays are directed by Matthew Floyd Miller.
The play premieres this Friday at 8 p.m. with more performances on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. and at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
The following weekend starts with a performance on May 2 at 8 p.m., May 3 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and May 4 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $10 at the door, $7 for ASU members.
The final play of the spring season is “Kindred” by Daniel Keleher.
The play will be directed by Rodney Lloyd Scott and opens May 16 at 8 p.m. in the Proscenium Theatre.
