ELAC’s Theatre Department prepares to bring “Woyzeck,” a working class tragedy play written by Georg Büchner to the stage.
The department will perform John Reddick’s translation of the play.
Büchner left his play incomplete at the time of his death, but it has since been completed by several authors, editors and translators.
The play is known for dealing with the dehumanizing effects of doctors and the military on a young man’s life.
It has become one of the most performed and influential plays in the German theater repertory.
The leading role of Woyzeck will be played by Lorena Ruiz under the direction of David Lloyd Scott.
The play premieres in ELAC’s Black Box Theatre on Friday at 8 p.m. Other showtimes include Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., Sunday at 8 p.m., Oct. 17 at 8 p.m., Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. and closes Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.
Parental guidance is strongly advised for disturbing themes, sexual content and graphic violence.
Tickets are $10 at the door and $8 for Associate Student Union members.
