Wrestlers beat the University of Southern California

The East Los Angeles College wrestling team finished 5th in their Fourth-Annual Brawl beating the University of Southern California, who placed sixth, in the process.

The Huskies also beat the University of California, Irvine who did not sport a complete team.

Two Huskies advanced to the championship finals with sophomores Adrian Herrera, in the 174-pound weight division, and William Amelong (heavyweight).

Herrera won first place with an upset against Cesar Luna of Bakersfield College.

Herrera finished the day with a record of 3-0 overall also beating Amir Bakhshi of Cuesta College in the second round.

Bakhshi is currently ranked 6th in the state .

Amelong took second place as he lost to Brian Curtis of Dixie State University.

Amelong finished the day 2-1.

Three Huskies lost in the consolation finals – freshmen Kevin Valdez (125), Noe Lum (157) and Ricardo Organes (197) who all placed fourth.

Also wrestling for the Huskies were Mariaelena Hernandez (133), Max Velez, Josue Perez, Marco Ramirez, Jonathan Mandujano (149), and Antonio Florido (285).

Hernandez pinned Kate Nestingen (157 pounds) of Cuesta in an exhibition match.
