The Milky Way Teahouse opened close to East Los Angeles College’s South Gate Campus on Firestone Boulevard, bringing a new theme to town.

A collection of space is relative through the small dessert spot, creating a cozy atmosphere.

Milky Way offers a variety of drinks, each with a galactic name.

Two of the Milky Way’s signature boba floats are Nebula which consists of taro, black milk tea, vanilla ice cream, captain crunch packed on top, honey boba and caramel syrup drizzled over the drink. The Galaxy Cow, another signature float, consists of peach, rose, green milk tea, vanilla ice cream, fruity pebbles, honey boba and caramel syrup.

Customer Daisy Ponce said she enjoys this spot. “Not only do they have an aesthetic theme, they have great customer service, promising to remake the drink if it doesn’t satisfy the customer,” Ponce said.

The interior of the establishment is made up of grey chalky walls, with one wall that is visible to the customer as soon as they walk in with the sign “Milky Way Teahouse.”

Out of the decorations, there is one that stands out. It’s a hot pink neon sign that says “milking cows from another galaxy.”

There are also wooden benches for the customers to sit while they wait for their dessert drinks.

Milky Way has made its opening a promising addition to the Downey Ave plaza with their many boba floats, attentive customer service and unique theme.

Hours of operation are Sunday through Monday 11:30 a.m.to 9 p.m., and Friday through Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

John Apelacio, one of the many managers, says “One of my partners came up with the idea and we thought it’d be cool, the galaxy theme. If I didn’t work here I would still come in for a couple of drinks such as Stratosphere or Constellation.”
