Music Department to showcase students’ talent

The East Los Angeles College Music Department will present six musical performance events in December.

These events will be the last ones held before the end of the semester.

Music students will have the opportunity to showcase their talent through various recitals and concerts.

“All music majors are required to participate in our December events. Vocalists will need to perform in at least three of the shows and instrumentalists must perform in two” said Music Department’s chair  Anthony Lupica.

The shows will feature ELAC instrumentalists, composers, vocalists, and others involved in the performance productions.

Students have dedicated over two weeks of their time in preparation for the musical events.

The first event is the Student Piano Recital directed by piano professor Lucy Nargizyan and will feature piano students on Monday at noon.

This show will be free admission.

The Christmas Choir Concert will also be held on Monday at 7:30 p.m. and will be free admission.

It will feature the ELAC College Choir and Chamber Chorale along with Lupica as conductor.

Students of the ELAC Music Department will hold the Student Recital 4 on December 5th at noon.

This show will be free admission.

Jazz Ensemble director Bobby Chavez will direct the Christmas Jazz Concert on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

The performance will feature the Jazz Ensemble and there will be no admission charge.

The Orchestra Concert will be held on Dec. 6 at 8 p.m.

It will be conducted by strings professor Samuel Chilingarian and will feature the Symphony Orchestra. This show will also be free admission.

The last musical event of the semester will be the Symphonic Band Concert on December 7 at 8 p.m. Music professor Jesus “Chuy” Martinez will conduct. For tickets contact the Music Department at (323)265-8948.

All of the events will be held on campus in the S2 building’s recital hall, which has a large audience seating area for 350 people.

The events are not limited to students. Anyone can attend and support the performances.

There will be free parking for all attendees in parking structure four.
