ELAC couldn’t comeback after crushing loss to conference team Chaffey Community college 6-9. ELAC’s defense was a brick wall early in this game allowing no runs in the first three innings.
Pitcher Serena Chavez was on a roll, strikeout after strikeout which lead to three straight quick innings defensively. On the opposite side of the field ELAC was just as strong when Catcher Melanie Torres drove in the first run of the game with a line drive double to center field in just the second inning.
Their next four runs came in the bottom of the third when a few errors from Chaffey and more hits from ELAC gave the Huskies a commanding lead of 5-0 in just the third inning. But Chaffey College turned the tables in the top of the fourth inning.
Rbi hits from Chaffey College’s third basemen Tyani Lowe and outfielder Michaela Shaughnessy brought Chaffey College closer to the huskies making it 5-4. But the runs didn’t stop there the Panthers drove in three more runs, which forced the Huskies to make a pitching change and bring in Majisty Shomo.
The Huskies finally made it out of that inning but were trailing 5-7 in the fifth inning. No scores from either team would go on until the seventh inning when the Panthers extended their lead 5-8. the Huskies tried to rally late scoring one run but it was too little too late as the Panthers took this game from the Huskies.
The final score was 6-9, making the Huskies record 1-8 as the Huskies continue to struggle early in the season. Head Coach Erika Blanco was optimistic after the game saying “ We definitely had a lot a positives today with our offense but defensively we made a lot of mistakes and I believe we should’ve won this game.”
The Huskies seemed to get their foot off the gas pedal with such an early lead. atcher Melanie Torres said “ Well this game affects us because this is a conference game and when we had our lead we got too comfortable and when we tried to come back it was just too late.
