East Los Angeles College Athletics has begun to show off its new logo with the basketball team being the first to display it.
All ELAC athletics will have the same logo and same format.
The only difference is that each sport name will appear below the ELAC lettering, head of sports information Cerwin D. Haynes said.
Before President Marvin Martinez left, he spoke to the Athletic Department and said their logo needed to change to a more modern look.
Haynes said that the Athletic Department came to an agreement of choosing the new logo for the department a few months ago.
Kevin Jimenez, public information officer ,“Understood our concerns,” Haynes said after disagreeing with the first logos they were shown a few months ago.
“We decided that a silhouette look will look pretty cool and Jimenez and Katherine Coert came up with the logo,” athletic director Robert Godinez said.
ELAC graphic designer Katherine Coert was the one who came up with the logo.
Men’s basketball is the first team to be displaying the logo on their jumpsuits and gear.
“The logo has a little bit more of an identity. It’s little more personal, like in your face kind of,” sophomore guard Mark Boland said.
“If you stare at it long enough, it looks intimidating,” assistant Basketball coach Robert Robinson said.
“Your logo is part of our identity,” Haynes said.
He said every athletic team was informed of the new logo and will be able to display the it anyway they like on the uniforms.
The logo will be presented to all media, sports conference, league members and before the end of the year.
The rest of the ELAC teams will be showing off the new logo at the start of 2020.
