District Academic Senate Executive Committee President Angela Echeverri said there was a confirmed COVID-19 case at the Los Angeles Community College District office Monday. Echeveiir said the employee was working on the first and second floors with Information Technology employees setting up computers for students. She spoke to members of the DAS about the situation on Friday.

“We were notified in an email on Wednesday, April 1 that the employee had been hospitalized with COVID-19 symptoms and on Thursday, April 2 that the employee tested positive for COVID-19,” Echeverri said.

Echeverri said that the IT worker was at three different colleges leading up to Monday. She confirmed that the IT worker had been at Southwest College and City College.

William Boyer, public information officer for the LACCD, confirmed that the employee was also at East Los Angeles College. He said that the employee was not involved in the ELAC two-day laptop distribution event.

Boyer said that the district office has been working under the guidelines set forth by the Los Angeles Department of Health for some time. He said that with the confirmation of the employee testing positive, steps were taken.

“Once (the) incident was confirmed, notifications were made to employees, appropriate guidance given to those who might have been exposed and areas involved were closed for cleaning (and) sanitizing,” Boyer said.
