LACCD schools come together, celebrate academic achievement

The Los Angeles Community College District’s Third Annual Mi Gente Graduate Celebration is scheduled at East Los Angeles College at the Weingart Stadium on June 1. The event will commence at 4 p.m.

In a district-wide post, The Mi Gente Graduate Celebration committee said the event is a “culturally relevant celebration that reflects our rich and diverse Latino cultures, music, language, and histories.”

The Mi Gente Graduate Committee is co-chaired by Angelita Rovero and Jocelyn Duarte.

Graduating students from all nine Los Angeles Community College District colleges will have the opportunity to come together and celebrate their academic achievements.

The nine colleges are:

• East Los Angeles College

• Los Angeles City College

• Los Angeles Harbor College

• Los Angeles Mission College

• Los Angeles Pierce College

• Los Angeles Southwest College

• Los Angeles Trade Tech College

• Los Angeles Valley College

• West Los Angeles College

The graduate celebration was first held at ELAC in June 2022 and has

continued every year thereafter.

At the first celebration, guest speakers like actor Danny Trejo were in attendance.

Alberto Román, ELAC president was also at the event.

The second year, the event was held at Los Angeles City College.

This year, it will return to ELAC.

Students can RSVP through the provided link on the district-wide post. The post can be viewed in the notification center on student’s canvas.

The RSVP requires students to fill out basic personal information along with student information such as current college, potential degree type and major.

Students who choose to RSVP, have the option to select a guest amount of one to 10 guests to attend the ceremony.

Mi Gente-themed graduation sashes are also available at a nominal cost. Students may purchase the sashes through email by contacting or through Instagram @sfdsashes.

The event also welcomes staff and faculty to sign up to volunteer.

The committee has made accommodation information known to those with disabilities.

The district-wide post said that, “LACCD encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities.

If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact the Mi Gente Committee as soon as possible, but no later than fourteen (14) business days prior to the event.”
