Huskies dominate Hornets

The Men’s Soccer Team defeated the Fullerton College Hornets last Friday at Weingart Stadium in an afternoon full of excitement and goals by the home team.

The Huskies were playing their third game of the season and having the advantage of playing as the local team was crucial for their 4-0 victory over Fullerton.

After half-time the match turned into a showcase of great touches and finishes by the Huskies who scored three of their four goals in 27 minutes of the second half.

Three minutes after kick-off, the Huskies had their first opportunity but were unable to finish it.

Six minutes in, ELAC was awarded a free kick, which was taken by Javier Campos (#12,) but the shot was blocked by the opposing defense.

During minute 15 a powerful shot by the Huskies hit the posts of the opposing team making it the most dangerous situation up to that point.

At minute 20 Fullerton started a dangerous counterattack move but failed to score.

A foul committed by the Huskies at minute 22 generated a great opportunity for the opposing team but the goalkeeper was there to stop Fullerton’s shot.

It was not until minute 40 after a free kick awarded to ELAC, Omar Garcia (#13) took a shot and scored to give the Huskies the advantage and go to half-time leading 1-0.

The second half of the match promised to be more interesting and entertaining with ELAC wanting to extend the goal difference and Fullerton to minimize it.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Salvador Medrano (#22) gave the Huskies their second goal.

After the goal the Huskies started to gain more control of the ball and generated dangerous situations which started to frustrate the opposing team.

The Huskies started to give the spectators a taste of their game by showing some deft, tricks and skills.

They were more secure and confident and Fullerton started to see how victory was slipping away from them.

ELAC gained control of the game but Fullerton kept trying to minimize the difference.

Nine minutes were left when the Huskies showed their confidence and worked as a team when Galo Moreno (#7) scored a goal to secure victory.

The Huskies wanted more. At minute 84, Danny Suarez (#30) scored the fourth and final goal .

“Is a good thing to win at home. The players are just starting to learn to trust each other. We made it difficult on ourselves during the first half but we are a work in progress” said Head Coach Eddie Flores, after the game.

“I feel great. I’m very happy. We gave more than a 100 percent” said Salvador Medrano who scored a stunning goal.

Medrano also said that for him the key to victory was that the team had a lot of good touches.

“We played good and everybody tried. We were good as a team and we are getting better”  said Galo Moreno was also happy with the victory and his goal,

Daniel Suarez and Omar Garcia, who scored the other two goals, shared their thoughts on the game. “I’m happy because practice payed off and we worked as a team,” said Garcia.

“I feel really good. We worked together and won the game, now we move on and focus on the next game” said Suarez.
