The East Los Angeles men’s soccer team opened South Coast Conference play on the road with a 2-1 defeat against Long Beach City College last Tuesday to drop to 2-1-4 overall.
ELAC lost in an upset to LBCC in the first round of playoffs last season.
ELAC opened the score in the first half with a goal by Omar Garcia. The Vikings counterattacked and scored two goals back-to-back within five minutes during the second half.
“Overall we played a great game. Once again we dominated the game and scored first. We had the momentum, but they got us twice in counterattack,” ELAC Assistant Coach Melvin Rubio said.
“LBCC is a great team. Overall they are well organized. They made us work for our goals. They are a team we should have beaten,” Rubio said.
LBCC stands 4-4 overall, 1-in the SCC.
The Huskies will host Pasadena City College this Friday, 6 p.m. at Weingart Stadium. The Lancers are 1-5-1 overall after beginning the SCC with a victory over El Camino College last Tuesday.
“We are not going to underestimate any opponent. We are in the best conference. I think our game is going to be the same. We know (Pasadena) has good talent and they have a couple of players that move the ball really great,” Rubio said.
