The Annual East Los Angeles Classic, which pits rivals Garfield and Roosevelt high schools, is one of the top high school football rivalries in the nation. It draws an average of 20,000 annually.
The 2012 Photo-Story Essay gallery displays Classic tradition such as the camaraderie both teams display while raising helmets together after they pray after the game, which signifies they are both from the same community; alumni cheerleaders with pom-poms joining cheerleaders on both sides of the field.
The gallery includes a glimpse of the emotion-filled 2012 Classic game won by Garfield High School, 7-0, at East Los Angeles College’s Wiengart Stadium in Monterey Park, Calif on Oct. 26.
