With excellent pitching and timely hitting, No. 11-ranked East Los Angeles College shutout No. 19-ranked Los Angeles Pierce College Thursday night at Husky Park.

The Huskies improved their record to 8-5 overall while Pierce dropped to 7-5-1.

South Coast Conference play begins next week. ELAC will host Pasadena City College on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

ELAC starting sophomore pitcher Shawn Kennedy threw a masterful six and two thirds innings.

Kennedy had command of his fastball striking out nine Pierce batters while walking only two.

With the win Kennedy is 2-2 on the season, dropping his earned run average to 2.93.

ELAC freshman catcher David Sanchez said, “Shawn was amazing as always. When he is dominant like that, we’ll win 90 percent of the games.”

The ELAC offense backed up a strong pitching performance, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning, that built momentum for the rest of the game.

A run batted in double by ELAC sophomore outfielder Eduardo Pedroza and an RBI single by ELAC sophomore third baseman Michael Aguilar gave the Huskies an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Sanchez contributed the most offense with his three RBIs off of two doubles.

ELAC freshman pitcher Daniel Moriel came into the game in the ninth inning to ensure the Huskies 6-0 win.
