East Los Angeles College is holding on to seventh place after Day 1 in the South Coast Conference swimming finals yesterday at Mt. San Antonio College.
Mt. SAC leads the women’s competition with 273 points. ELAC scored 83 points to Rio Hondo’s 30. The Huskies replaced Rio Hondo College in seventh place after scoring 57 more points than the Roadrunners in the night session.
The SCC finals continue tonight and tomorrow all day at Mt. San Antonio College. ELAC’s Alice Fei Zhang is top-seeded in the short distance events, the 50-yard butterfly and the 50 breaststroke.
The Huskies are 13 points behind Cerritos College and within striking distance of Long Beach City College. “We hope to score more points than Long Beach,” Erik Matheson, ELAC head swim coach, said.
Daisy Gomez took fifth place in the women’s 1-meter diving event, tying her personal record of 118.55 points, which was held April 11 at El Camino College.
