About a seven-minute drive or 18-minute bus ride from East Los Angeles College, El Kiosko Mexican Grill provides customers with traditional plates for affordable prices.
This eatery gives customers a vibe of walking into their grandmother’s kitchen as she is about to cook them some homemade traditional food from Mexico.
El Kiosko Mexican Grill has a variety of traditional plates in their menu. From various breakfast plates like huevos rancheros (ranch-style eggs) served with potatoes and pinto beans, to lunch plates like chile relleno y enchilada (stuffed bell peppers and stuffed tortillas) served with rice and beans.
One of the plates that everyone should try are the costillas con chile (short ribs in special sauce) served with a side of freshly made salad, rice, and beans. The meat is tender yet juicy, with a hint of spiciness that makes anyone want more.
Another plate to try are the chilaquiles con pollo (fried chips dipped in red or green sauce with chicken) also served with a side of rice and beans. The sauces that these chips are dipped in makes your mouth crave more because its rich flavor.
They also have various sea food plates like camarones a la diabla (shrimp in spicy sauce), to mojarra frita (fried fish) both served with freshly hand made tortillas, rice, beans, and a side of salad.
Plates range from $4.99 to $14.99.
A typical plate can feed two people, as they are served in big proportions.
The eatery has a warm-like-feeling, yet has this simplicity that makes it feel as if you are the only one at their dinner.
Although the food is very good, the customer service lacks the standards that their food has.
Food takes a while to be brought to the table. It averages about fifteen to twenty minutes for the food to be brought after being ordered.
The rich-taste of their plates, and the quality of food more than makes up for the lack of customer service and the long wait for the food.
Located a block east of the Indiana Gold Line Train Station, El Kiosko Mexican Grill is located on 3534 east First St, 90063.
