Water polo ends season with two wins

The East Los Angeles College women’s water polo team took fifth place with an upset win against Rio Hondo 10-9 in the South Coast Conference Tournament Championships Nov. 8 at Mt. San Antonio College.

Rio Hondo College hosted the tournament, but it was held at Mt. San Antonio College because Rio Hondo’s pool is being renovated.

In the win against Rio Hondo, ELAC was led by freshmen Yvonne Young and Brandy Macias who each scored three goals.

ELAC also beat El Camino College, 9-7 with Macias scoring a team leading four goals .

Chaffey College, who won the tournament, beat ELAC in the opening round, 14-3.  Freshman goalie Ashley Alfaro led the Huskies with five saves against Chaffey.

Macias led the Huskies with 74 goals this season. Alfaro ended the season with 139 saves.
