Track & Field shines at relays

Freshman Kaniya Bawlson’s No. 2 high jump mark in the state was the highlight for the East Los Angeles College women’s track and field at the non-scoring Mt. San Antonio College Cross Town Relays on Feb. 2.

Freshman Ramiro Arreola continued his winning streak winning in the shot put for the ELAC men’s team with a personal record of 44’ 8” feet at the non-scoring Cerritos Cross Town Relays Field Events in Norwalk on Feb. 21. Arreola won first place in the same event at the Mt. SAC Opener on Feb. 13.

Arreola also took second place in the men’s discus throw at Cerritos.

Bawlson competed took fourth place in her first ever heptathlon competition at Mt. SAC, which is currently the fourth best mark in the state, however, Northern California community colleges have yet to compete in the event.

At Cerritos, ELAC freshman Jackiee Montoya took 2nd place in the women’s long jump while teammate and freshman Maureen Contreras was the top ELAC women’s thrower winning fourth place in the shot put.

The Huskies compete next at the Cerritos College Invitational on Feb. 28.

4,000-meter Distance Relay

Men’s: Torres, Perez, Arias, Jauregui, 7th

Women’s: Ruiz, Jessica Perez, Stephanie Trelles, Aceves, 4th
