A $2,000 scholarship is being made available to students who fall under the Dream Act (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act).
A “Dreamer” is defined by the U.S. government as a foreign student that entered the United States before the age of 16 and has been present in the country for at least five consecutive years prior to the enactment of the bill.
The student must have graduated from an American high school, have obtained a GED, or have been accepted into an institution of higher education.
The student’s moral character must also be in good standing.
Aside from being a dreamer, an applicant must be at least 18 years old, or currently attending high school as a senior.
The candidate must be attending or headed to either a university or community college and must have a standing GPA of at least a 2.0 average.
It is mandatory that recipients be present at the event being put on by Elena Rodrigo Marketing and Media (ER:M+M) and Unidos Por La Musica (UPLM).
During this event, the four winners of the scholarship will be announced.
If the recipients fail to attend, they will automatically be disqualified.
Elena Rodrigo: Marketing and Media is an event promotions and artist development agency that offers public relations, promotional and consulting services via their online college radio station.
And Unidos Por La Musica’s mission is to promote economic self-sufficiency and upward mobility to low-income community residents through education and the power of music.
ER:M+M will be providing well known artists, such as SIE7E and Christian Chavez for the second annual fundraiser concert hosted by UPLM.
The purpose of this event is to raise funds to benefit Dream Act students by helping ease any financial burdens that may be hindering them from continuing their education.
The concert will take place on Nov. 6, at Club Los Globos in Hollywood.
Only 600 students will be accepted into the application process. However, the number of applicants is fairly low. This is an advantage for anyone who applies.
The application deadline is Oct. 19. The form can be found at unidosporlamusica.org.
