Students decide whether to study abroad

To study abroad in college or not is a question commonly for students who want to try something different in a new environment.

For better or worse, every student who want to study abroad is becoming a controversial question. Some students would rather spend more time at their school, however others think studying abroad is the most important thing, not to mention the greatest,  experience of their college life.

“I am here because I am young and energetic, I want to see the new world and learn culture.” International student Kubota said.

According to the research “International Student Study in the USA”,  the article shows “ the USA has the world’s largest international student population, with over 800,000 students choosing to broaden their education and life experience in the United States.”

Obviously, studying abroad would bring lots benefit to those who want to try something new. “There are several reasons that I want to share. The first is I can definitely experience a different education system than my home country.  Second, I can learn something totally different and unforgettable experience. I will never do anything like this again in my own country.” Kubota said.

According research “Study Abroad”, Perhaps one of the best ways to experience culture is to live. Student can also built their self capability, such as independence, time management, organization, social skills and self-confidence.  

As an international student, I feel like it is a big challenge for me to live and study without my family. However, I find I truly love the experience that I made so far. I gain new perspectives on thing I normally would not have. I immerse myself in a complete different culture.

On the contrary, some students claim that they cannot afford to study abroad. “The main reason I am concerned is that I have to spend a large sum to study abroad and living expense. My family should pay for that.” Elac student Kelly said.

According research by Lisa Saltagi, only 2% US students study abroad per year.  “The average cost of studying abroad for one semester is $17,787.” Money is the most common excuse for not studying abroad.  

Fear is another big concerned for students who have never live without their family.  The fear of homesickness, loneliness even not having fun. The language limitation makes students feel culture shock. They begin to not make friend and get worst and worst.

Although studying abroad may not be the best choice for every students, we should never stop trying something new by any of difficulties or hardship.

“Study abroad allows you to experience another part of yourself in a different setting.” Kubota said.
