CAOT fundraises $500 for breast cancer awareness

The Computer Applications and Office Technologies club is one of East Los Angeles college’s newest clubs. Within the small time frame that the CAOT club has been around they’re already putting together events. The CAOT club began last spring with a small group of students and gained more members within the following semesters. Within the initial semester that the club began, Professor Ann Mahrenholz stepped in to become club advisor of the CAOT club.

Just recently the CAOT club held a fundraiser that was specifically aimed towards breast cancer awareness. The club sold bags of Hershey’s chocolates with messages that brought awareness to breast cancer.  The club raised over $500 towards the fight against breast cancer within the four hours of the fundraiser and donated all of the proceedings to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Club advisor Marenholz plans to hold more events in the near future and hopes that all events turn out successful just like this fundraiser.

Marenholz has been with ELAC for about two years and has been in the tech industry for around 20 years. She started out as a programmer for a small company known as Touch Tech and eventually went back to school and got her masters then pursued teaching due to her preference in interacting with people and students. She began teaching at Mt. San Jacinto community college for about five years then came here to ELAC.

Marenholz strongly believes that clubs holds great potential for students that are interested in transferring, meeting new people and creating opportunities that last after graduation. Mahrenholz is very dedicated to the CAOT club and is planning to have guest speakers at their future meetings. Mahrenholz is also looking into getting potential internships for the club members.

With technology and tech companies growing, the CAOT club strives to help students with getting first hand experiences in the field and also strive to guide students into getting a career within the field. The club currently has about 15 members and is always seeking more. Even if you aren’t a CAOT major, all majors are welcome. The CAOT club meets once a week every Tuesday at the main campus from 1:30-2:30pm in F7 room 416.
