In a game to decide the South Coast Conference North conference champion, women’s basketball lost 83-73 to Los Angeles Trade- Tech College on Friday at home.

At the end of the first half East Los Angeles College had the lead with a score of 31-29. However, LA Trade-Tech took advantage of ELAC’s offensive mistakes.

“We played well, but we missed to many layups. You have to capitalize on their (LA Trade-Tech) mistakes. We had too many turnovers. It’s uncharacteristic of our team,” ELAC head coach Bruce Turn said.

In the fourth quarter, as the Huskies were down by 15 points, freshman guard Adriana Gonzalez shot some three-point field goals that closed the gap.

Throughout the second half, ELAC failed to score in free throws shots and layups. Turner said those mistakes cost ELAC the win.

In the last minutes of the game LA Trade-Tech had a couple of turnovers that shutdown ELAC.

“I thought that they showed they are champions because East LA came ready to play. They have a very good coach that has seen it all,” said Sherwyn Morgan head coach of Los Angeles Trade Tech.

ELAC and LA Trade-Tech were tied in first place before the game.

The Huskies finished the regular season with an overall record of 25-6 and 8-2 in the SCC-North.

ELAC’s next game will be a playoff match on Saturday.
