During A long season full of highs and lows the men’s soccer team struggled to find a formula to win games.

Finishing with a record of 4 wins, 12 loses and 6 draws isn’t much to look back on, but instead they look toward next season and improving on last season’s mistakes.

The Huskies had a respectable home record of 4 wins, 3 losses, and 3 draws with the wins against LA Harbor, LA Pierce, Victor Valle, and a dominant 5-0 win against Lemoore College.

In contrast, they had an abysmal away record, with 0 wins, 9 losses and 3 draws with their worst performance being a loss against Mt. San Antonio College, 0-6.

The players could have executed better as losing games comes with frustration and loss of motivation for the next game.

Goalkeeper Angel Martinez was the iron man of the team as he www.ELACCampusNews.com clocked in a total of 1,141 minutes and played 14 games in which he started 13 of those.

Martinez had a save percentage of .767, a total of 46 saves and 14 goals awarded.

The defense did not do him much help throughout the season.

They allowed 46 goals by the end of the season, some of them being last minute goals which resulted in losses. In the game against Pasadena City a late goal in the 97th minute resulted in a loss.

There were also games where they had the lead but couldn’t hold on to them which resulted in a tie, like against Compton when a late 90th minute goal resulted in a 3-3 tie.

A loss of focus and getting too comfortable with the score results in these last minute goals.

The Huskies had opportunities to win games but were unable to close out those final minutes and ended up beating themselves in the end.

However, they did score 26 goals on a .157 shooting percentage with 166 shot attempts and around seven shot attempts per game.

They did not pass the ball particularly well, since they only had 9 assisted goals the whole season.

Most goals came from the players’ individual skills.

Forward Yandel Garcia was the Huskies’ top scorer with a total of 6 goals behind second leading scorer midfielder Xavier Villa.

Garcia scored 2 penalty kicks and a split of assisted and unassisted goals.

Garcia’s individual brilliance was not enough to get wins at the end of the day, since soccer is a team sport.

The men’s soccer team has regressed over the past couple of seasons as they have gone from nine wins in 2022 to six wins and now just four as they struggle to find a formula to go back to their winning ways.

Team success should be a big part moving forward and a mentality to win and grow as a team is needed.

It’s a forgettable season that should be put behind and instead look forward to next season in hope of better results.
